How about a holiday where all the family can go, any time of the year where you can relax enjoy great weather and come back a lot fitter both mentally and physically than when you left? That’s the concept of Club La Santa on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Isles.
Firstly the climate; on a similar latitude to Florida the all year round sunshine and fine weather is typical of the Canary Islands. For example in October, one of the hotter months, the weather is usually clear skies and temperatures in the high 70s and cooler February is still mid 60s with up to 8 hrs of sunshine.
Then there’s the resort; situated on the north east coast of the island Club La Santa is a combined holiday, conference and sports centre located just 20 minutes from the airport. It has a choice of restaurants, bars and other facilities on site such as a supermarket, sports shop and clothes shops. Accommodation is in modern functional apartments with self catering facilities and sleeping for up to 8 people in the largest accommodation.
There are no age barriers at Club La Santa as the club can cater for all ages and abilities and it’s not all about sport. There is a disco, cinema, kids club and shows throughout your stay or you can just relax in one of the three bars on the resort.
The sports facilities are world class; the Olympic size pool has timing devices at the end of each lane and coaches on site for the more serious swimmer, however if you are a beginner then the swimming instructors will give you lessons. No need to take any equipment as all items such as flippers, masks, snorkels are available on site. If your swimming is just splashing about as a cool down from the sun there is also a leisure pool for the less serious.
For runners there are organised runs of various distances in the morning and evening, there is also a morning walk for the less energetic. You can sign up for the running school or you can even have your own private instructor. The club promotes a number of running and triathlon events throughout the year including the famous Lanzarote Ironman.
The cycling programme includes guided rides around the island catering for different abilities or feel free to find your own routes and discover Lanzarote for yourself. You can bring your own bike or rent one of the top quality bikes that Club la Santa provide, however the local law does insist that you wear a compliant helmet. The club is often used as a base for top professional cyclists from Europe for a training camp as they prepare for their season. The climate and terrain are ideal and are a pleasant change from the bleak mainland European winters. But in keeping with the Club la Santa tradition this is not just for top athletes as the club have all types of bikes to hire from kids bikes, ladies bikes, tourers, mountain bikes and even tandems.
General fitness is catered for in the Wellness centre which has a Spa with hydrotherapy, steam rooms, saunas etc and a wide range of treatments available including physiotherapy and massage. In all there are 9 indoor sports, 13 outdoors sports and 5 water sports that you can participate in.
So old or young, fit or just want a break, Club La Santa is the ideal destination being only a short flight from the UK with lots to see and do on Lanzarote plus enough on site activities to keep you busy all day.
