In recent times, we have always been encountering the term web 2.0. I know that many of us do not know what web 2.0 is. I know because I do not know this term for a long time before I had the chance to start reading articles about it. In this article, I will try my best to show you and explain to you what it is, how it is used, and why we have been hearing a lot about web 2.0. I will explain the concepts on the term web 2.0.

What is web 2.0?

So what really is web 2.0? In order for us to understand this system, let us first define what web 2.0 is. First of all it is not a new internet. The real definition of web 2.0, according to our source (http://we.wikipedia.org/wiki/web2.0) is that web 2.0 is a term often applied to a perceived ongoing transition of the World Wide Web from a collection of websites to a full pledged computing platform serving web applications to end users.

Ultimately, web 2.0 services are expected to replace desktop computing applications for many purposes. That is one definition of web 2.0. Read it and understand the words and eventually you would understand. But I know that the definition given by our source is a bit deep and some people would still not understand it.

So here it goes again, here is a better definition for the average people to understand. Web 2.0 is a term used to refer to the perceived ongoing transition of the internet experience. In lay mans terms, it changes the way the users, us, experience and use the internet and the effect that we have on it as a whole. In the early days of the internet, we use it as a research engine, read articles and information, play games, and many other things. Now, with the help of the web 2.0, the user can actually contribute to the internet and its contents.

Example of Web 2.0

One of the best examples of web 2.0 is Youtube. The makers of the site created it and basically told people to upload their videos so that people can watch it. That is the uploaders contribution to the web site. Basically the contents of Youtube are through the contribution of its members and uploaders.

Another great example of it would be Friendster. In Friendster, the makers put up a site, asked people to create a profile about them. Putting in things about the user. The content of Friendster is created by the user. That is their contribution.

Blogs is another great example. We all know that the main blogger creates the original blog but he/she is actually opening up a discussion for readers and other users to put comments and their reactions on it. Its content is given by the readers and users.

Are you getting it now? Because of web 2.0, internet users are just no longer users but can now contribute to it. The internet became interactive because of web 2.0. This is what they meant when they referred to it as perceived ongoing transition.

Managing Web 2.0

The only difficulty of web 2.0 is how to manage the traffic. Sometimes, people put in a lot of stuff in the page that it gets so clogged up. Now, there are many programs and tools to manage this traffic. All it takes is a little patience and luck for you to make the traffic flow on your page as smooth as it can get.
